Responsible Gambling

Entertainment, not income
Gambling is not a reliable way to earn money, pay bills, or solve financial problems. There is no guarantee of a win. Faster withdrawals do not reduce the risk of losing money.
Set spending and time limits
Decide what you can afford to lose before you start. Keep essential spending and savings separate. Use deposit, spending, or loss limits where available, and set a time limit. Stop when you reach either limit. Do not increase limits in response to losses.
Do not chase losses
Trying to recover a loss by increasing stakes or continuing to play can lead to further harm. Avoid borrowing money or using credit to fund gambling. A previous loss does not make a future win more likely.
Avoid gambling while impaired
Do not gamble while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or when upset, exhausted, or unable to make clear decisions. Take breaks and make room for other activities.
Recognize warning signs
- Spending more money or time than intended.
- Hiding gambling or lying about losses.
- Borrowing money, missing bills, or selling belongings to play.
- Neglecting work, relationships, sleep, or other responsibilities.
- Feeling unable to stop or repeatedly trying to win money back.
Account limits, breaks and self-exclusion
Look for account limits, temporary breaks, and self-exclusion options in the operator’s safer gambling settings. Check which sites a self-exclusion program covers and how long it lasts. Do not assume a single account restriction applies everywhere.
iGaming Ontario’s player information describes spending and time limits, breaks, and self-exclusion for its regulated market. Check the current official guidance for the program relevant to you.
Find professional support
You do not have to wait for a crisis to seek help. The Responsible Gambling Council’s Help for Canadians page provides routes to gambling support and counselling resources. Support can also help people affected by someone else’s gambling.
Age requirements and provincial differences
Legal gambling age and applicable rules vary by province and product. Verify the requirements with the relevant provincial authority. Never bypass location restrictions or use another person’s account. Inclusion in our shortlist does not establish provincial authorization.
